Kaberle To The Bruins—it’s official

via Darren Dreger tweet,

Colborne, Boston’s 1st in 2011 and a conditional pick for Kaberle the basis of the trade. Trade call still has to be made to close the deal.

added 1:08pm, via another Dreger tweet,

Bruins may have another deal involving Blake Wheeler in the works. Leafs not involved.

Update 2:52 PM,: As noted below, the trade is official—the Bruins traded Colborne and their first-round draft pick, not the Leafs,’ to Toronto for Kaberle, who the Bruins hope will join their lineup tonight. Colborne will report to the Marlies and, according to the CBC’s Jeff Marek, play against the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday.

Brian Burke will conduct a press conference at 4 PM, and as noted previously, the Bruins did trade Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart to Atlanta for Rich Peverley and Boris Valabik.  Capgeek.com reports that the Bruins will now have about $800,000 in salary cap space to work with.

Boston still must find away to shed almost $1.2 Mil in salary to fit Kaberle under the cap.

Stuart to Chicago takes care of that, and that should happen shortly I would think.

According to CapGeek, Stuart is a $459K cap hit for the remainder of the season. Another move or two must be in the works.

At least the Leafs have Lebda to run the pivot on the power play.  The graph of PP% for the rest of this season for both clubs is going to be very interesting.

Bruins may have another deal involving Blake Wheeler in the works.

Wheeler = $603K Cap Hit.
Stuart = $459K
Kaberle = $1.165M

$459+$603=$1,062
$1,062 - $1,165= $(103)

$103K over the cap after trading for Kaberle and shedding both Wheeler and Stuart.

Fun with numbers, eh?

So, Burke asked Kaberle to waive his no-trade clause? But he has personal integrity that prevents him from asking a player who’s earned a no-trade to waive it.

*** - Editor’s Note from Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie at 12:19pm et: It appears as if Tomas Kaberle has been asked to waive his NTC to go to the Boston Bruins. There is every reason to believe he will sign it and the deal will now unfold.
