WINNIPEG (August 27, 2010) –Statement from Certified Agent Don Baizley regarding Paul Kariya’s playing future:
“Paul Kariya will not play hockey during the 2010/11 season. After being examined by concussion specialist Dr. Mark Lovell, Paul is not able to play hockey due to post-concussion syndrome.”

Well that sucks. Even though I kinda disliked him for the careless way he sometimes used his stick, he was a great player and is still good for the game. Hate to see him maybe end his career on something like this.

It was fun watching Chelios and Kariya in their jawing matches.

Big bummer, this guy has been a pleasure to watch over the years.

I was looking forward to seeing Selane and Kariya on the same line again.

What a shame. If this is it for his career, I hope he enjoys post-hockey life and his concussions don’t impact that too much.

If he’s not playing this year, he may as well hang them up. He’s not going to sit out a season at this stage in his career and be able to come back and be relevant.

Im sad to see this happen. Paul was a great player and he always made contributions to the communities in which he played in. He was a good role model and great athlete.
It will be hard for him to come back after a full year off. I will say a prayer and hope to see him again. I know he has a good work ethic. This is not good for him or the league. I think all of hockey was hurt by this.

Over the last month, I must have received over 200 emails asking about all the rumors of Kariya going to this team, that team, etc.
My standard reply was Kariya was not sure he is going to play this season and don’t believe the made up rumors, which is exactly what they were.
Now you know the reason he decided not to play.
