The KHL recently dealt with the fallout from Alexei Cherepanov’s death by adopting a list of resolutions in hopes of avoiding such tragedies in the future.
Today they’ve issued another press release related to those issues, this one inviting members of the media to observe their medical evaluation process. Presumably this openness is meant to reassure current and prospective players of the KHL’s commitment to their welfare.
Full text of the press release is available below.
KHL Invites Media to Observe Player Medical Examinations
The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) will unveil the KHL Medical Passport program, featuring thorough medical examinations of its hockey players, on Thursday, November 6.* The KHL player evaluations will include a detailed biochemical and endocrinological analysis, using the most modern methods of medical diagnostics to assess the health of KHL players.
The first group of KHL players to be evaluated at the Roszdrava Treatment and Rehabilitation Center consists of 67 athletes under the age of 19 years. This medical center has long specialized in working with elite level athletes and features a wide range of modern diagnostic equipment and qualified personnel.
After a briefing by Nicholas Durmanova, the KHL’s head of medical services, media representatives will be able to attend selected examinations, as well as speak with medical practitioners, who will conduct the tests.
