via the LA Kings,
The Los Angeles Kings have acquired defenseman Sean O’Donnell from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional draft selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
added 9:17pm, via Ducks Blog,
O’Donnell is due to make $1.25 million this season. The Ducks had been $1.22 million over the salary cap before the trade.
The conditional pick means that if O’Donnell is traded again before the deadline this season, the Ducks will receive the Kings’ third round pick. If the the Kings keep O’Donnell past the deadline, the Ducks would get nothing in return.

Surprised me as well. OD is a great grunt D-man. Nothing flashy, but sometimes that’s what you need in a D-man. Sad day.

Aside from the surprise as to who Anaheim traded, does the condition in the trade strike anybody else as a little backwards? Shouldn’t Anaheim get the pick if LA keeps O’Donnell?
This is yet another item on a long list of reasons why I fail to comprehend the Genius that is Brian “Call Me Kevin, But Just Call Me” Burke.

So, if LA can get more than a third round pick for O’Donnell at the trade deadline, they come out ahead. Or if they keep him all year, they, ah, come out ahead…and the Duckies get nothing!
Yah, that Burke is a real freakin’ genius. No doubt about it.

I’m a little surprised they made that trade. I figured they’d get rid of Klee instead. Both are making the same amount of money.
