from Stuart Shea at NHL.com,
The Calgary Flames cried foul.
Goalie Miikka Kiprusoff maintained after the Chicago Blackhawks’ 3-2 overtime win Thursday night that he was interfered with on Martin Havlat’s game-winning goal. Calgary coach Mike Keenan said there was no doubt that Hawks forward Andrew Ladd impeded his netminder.
“I believe it was Ladd who did not try to stop his movement toward the net, and that’s goaltender interference,” Keenan said. “However, the officials saw it different or didn’t make the call because of the excitement of overtime.”

It wasn’t called because Ladd was pushed backwards into Kiprusoff. End of story.
Rather than pissing and crying about Ladd not trying to get out of the way, maybe he should be pissed at Jordan Leopold for shoving a player into his goalie.
Watch that in real time and tell me there’s ANY way that Ladd gets out of the way.

Yeah, it sure looked like Ladd was bumped backward into Kiprusoff. Doesn’t seem like Keenan has much of a case here.

I agree with Baroque, I was saying “interference” when I first saw it but then I thought Leopold pushed Ladd into Kipper. If Kipper wants to yell at someone, it should be Leopold.

Yeah he was pushed a bit, but I GUARANTEE you that if that was the Wings playing and Holmstrom was the one there, that goal would be called back. End of story.

I guess the frustration for Calgary is that just a few weeks ago this (Glencorss called for goalie interference) was called by the same Ref working last night’s game. Doesn’t really scream of consistency.

The Glencross goal (at least the first one…) should definitely have counted, though with the angle the ref was at, it’s easy to see why he made the call he made. On the same token, it’s pretty clear from any angle that Ladd was pushed into Kipper.

There is no doubt that he was pushed, but the argument has been made that Ladd made zero effort to try and stop or slow himself running in to the netminder. From one angle there is very clear separation between Leopold and Ladd.
But all that means is that the official has to make a judgment call. Either call would have been considered “right” by some, but I think more people than not agree that the “better” call was made.
The NHL actually does a nice (if wordy) job of addressing any controversy surrounding the goal on their new Situation Room blog

Flames have no case; Ladd was pushed into Kiprusoff by Leopold - his own defenseman.
Same kind of shit Holmstrom gets blamed for…

When I first saw the goal, I was a little surprised that interference wasn’t called - or at least, the goal wasn’t waved off. My guess is the officials didn’t call it because they figured that the Chicago player was pushed into the goalie by the Flames player he was wrestling with.
