KK Interview with LA Times’ Columnist Helene Elliott

I had a chance today to speak with L.A. Times sports columnist, Helene Elliott.  Ms. Elliott is veteran hockey writer who also happens to be the first female journalist to be honored with a plaque in the Hall of Fame of any major professional sport.  From Legends of Hockey:

“Helene Elliott is a pioneer among female sports journalists,” said Kevin Allen, president, Professional Hockey Writers’ Association. “But she has truly been a role model for sportswriters of both genders. Her ethics are unquestionable. Her reporting is beyond reproach. Her prose is lively. Her professionalism is of the highest order. There is no one in this business any more respected than Helene.”

Our conversation can be downloaded here, or listened to on the player below.  My sincere thanks to Ms. Elliott for taking the time to speak to me on a busy game day.

Alanah:  Terrfic coup for you!!!  Very good interview.  I have never, prior to the CF, had the opportunity to read Ms. Elliot.  She certainly seems to know hockey, and has “data” handy to reinforce her opinion.

Kudos!!!

Glad to hear that you are in “relatively” good spirits despite circumstances.

Great interview Alanah!

Well, not to take anything away from Helene considering her creds, but when quantifing her lofty confidence in the Ducks, she pointed out depth, speed, grit and even scoring through the lines, as well as their top two d-men. That pretty much sums up Detroit through the first rounds. Also, why such swagger for this series, then hedge at the end regarding the East Conf. finals?

I was very impressed you didn’t say something snarky when she brought up the PK statistics against the Canucks; maybe you’re becoming somewhat the professional yourself, Alanah. smile

Nice interview.
