from Mlive,
Wings forward Tomas Kopecky out for 4-6 months after suffering a partially torn left anterior cruciate ligament and a sprained MCL when he flipped over Columbus forward Manny Malhota in Thursday’s game, general manager Ken Holland said on Friday. After a two-week period to let the swelling go down, Kopecky will have surgery.

The Wings better start calling him Abel, because they just may need him.

Abs has signed his three-year entry level contract per a headline on the Red Wings website. The article links to yesterday’s article though.

Thank heavens that modern surgery can put an injured knee back together, ala Kronwall. I remember how knee injuries hobbled Bobby Orr and Steve Yzerman. Kopecky can at least look forward to rehab and returning to the ice at close to his full potential.

This is getting out of control. The Stress Train would have to stop and take on a couple of extra cars if Abdelkader hadn’t shown last night that he’s ready to play a role in this year’s playoffs. A very impressive first outing for the young man.

Friggin’ awesome.
Anyone know if Abdelkader has a nickname or not? I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of him than previously planned…
