from Rich Hammond of Inside the Kings,
“I was here for three weeks,’’ Kopitar said of his work with the Kings’ training staff. “I feel I did everything in my power to prepare for this season.’‘
Kopitar said he wouldn’t shy away from high expectations for the Kings this season.
“Everybody is expecting the playoffs,’’ Kopitar said. “We have to put some pressure on ourselves. ... That’s just the way it is.’‘

Expecting playoffs? Don’t put the cart before the horse there my man!
I like Kopitar, really I do…but the Kings have major deficits in their lineup that even “the piece” (Scuderi) won’t solve…though together with Quick and Bernier when he’s on the ice they’ll at least have 1 goaltender.
If a team knows their expectation is to make it into the playoffs and go far, they’ll fail. Hell, last year’s cup champion penguins were probably just happy to make it into the playoffs after the abysmal first 60% of the season.
If you look at some (not Detroit of course, they expect to win the cup every year) of the previous cup winners, many had no expectation of winning the cup or even going far in the playoffs. Tampa, Anaheim, Carolina, (maybe the Devils), and certainly Pittsburgh (this year…).
Maybe the noob Goalies step up, but not likely with the Kings farm system and ability to play defense. It’s going to be a long year for them.
