They made a nice investment there and they haven’t paid the price at all!

Pierre LeBrun on HNIC Hotstove says Lou has gone into hiding and no answers from the Devils on this topic.

what are the cap ramifications long term if they try to bury the rest of his contract in the AHL starting tomorrow?

I think he’s used to doing what he wants.  They had Parise what did they need this guy for.  Bradeur wants d in front of him.  Kovalchuk wants offense.  Looks like Brodeur won this round.  They should see if LA still wants him.  The Devils win playing boring hockey.  Putting Kovalchuk there is like putting Pavorotti with a Barber Shop quartet.  He’s a bad fit and it’s only going to get worse. Couldn’t they see that in the playoffs?

I don’t think any one player gets to call the shots within that organization, at least as far as dictating what happens to other players on the team. There’s no real evidence in their history of that being true. Management and coaching staff make those calls, yes, players not so much. It is very early still, and they clearly have a lot to figure out. Points are being lost along with confidence. Lethal combination. They’ve demonstrated so far that they need better performance everywhere, offense, defense and goaltending. Hell, Hedberg was pulled after letting 4 goals in, and tonight was his starting game. I think Kovalchuk’s contract was a mistake, cap-wise and otherwise, but what we might be seeing in this new season is his learning curve, learning to be a team player and working his skill for scoring into playing on a line.

Is this the year…the Devils run ends? Looks that way. An old team with an disgruntled superstar, suddenly inept GM, and shorthanded roster. Not going to be a fun year for Devils fans…all ten of them.

I think there are some Pens fans who really cannot get past last season, losing every single meeting with the Devils. Or get past any kind of loss that exposes occasional or even systemic problems in their team’s system. You have a good team. Get over yourselves. Gee whiz….either that or all the Pens commenters on this site are 11 years old.

Well. let;s look at it this way. The last few seasons they have started strong and died at the end. perhaps the reverse will happen this year.  Also Lou called up a player to take his place so he knew about it.  I don’t think Lou ever thought this was a good idea.  He’s a selfish player and my suspicion is Lou is going to break him or die trying.  If you don’t play D in the NHL you lose.  I see the same scenario in Washington,  boudreau could be gone by Christmas.
