So, PK. That leaves us with 8 mil or 7 to spend on our two wunderkinds?  Would they live with 4 for Dats and 3 for Z?

Wings want to stay at about $37.5 million.  But the talk now is Saskin is informing player agents to get the max on long term contracts now, he expects the cap will actually be higher next year, so I am not sure why Dats agent is going in the opposite direction.

don’t we have too many D-men?

Chelios, Fischer, Schneids, Lidstrom, Kronwall, Lilja, Delmore, Rivers....

Dang! that’s a good defense.

Rivers in AHL and one person injured all year?  (hopefully not the same person).  Rotating to give Chelli a break?

Rivers can and has played forward too, so that is a good thing.
But we need to sign both Zetterberg and Datsyuk or it will be a long season.

Dear Kenny Holland:

Sign Datsyuk and Hank for as close to what they’re asking as is reasonably prudent. For as long as possible. Then, trade Lidstrom (and his huge salary) away for young prospects, insurance players, a disgruntled winger elsewhere, picks, whatever… it sucks, yes, but that’s the nature of Bettman’s “new NHL.” We’ll miss ya Nick, and appreciate everything you’ve done and accomplished here in Detroit, but you’re too damn expensive. We have a pretty damn good D corps even without you and, let’s face it, your best days are probably behind you.

Meh.
