So, while I’m slaving away at a hot laptop (I am!) Paul is running around Columbus, having fun no doubt. He promises he’ll be sending more updates and I’ll add them to this post as they arrive.

Message #8 Update 5:45pm EDT June 22 The view on the floor of the draft…

Message #7 Update 12:30pm EDT June 22 The talk in the hotel lobbies of Columbus… The Toskala deal (mentioned earlier) plus the Leafs looking at Mark Bell; and the possibilities of the Bruins going for Fernandez. The rumor mill churns…
Message #6 Update 11:30am EDT June22 Paul just checked in and mentioned a few bits of morning chatter. Nothing much going on but that Brian Burke was hinting at being busy on the draft floor today, and Darryl Sutter told him he doesn’t expect to trade up higher in the draft order than his #18 pick.
Message #5: Update 8:00am EDT June 22
A few words from Paul about things going on last night in Columbus. (mp3 audio)
Message #4: Update 7:01pm EDT June 21
Paul gives a quick update (mp3 audio) about what he’s up to at the Draft, including running into one of tomorrow’s top prospects in an elevator this afternoon!
Message #3: Update 6:20pm EDT June 21
Leafs’ GM John Ferguson Jr. comments that because the draft doesn’t start till 7pm he expects that GMs will take the time to talk trades throughout the day on Friday. (So, watch for some breaking stories? I would think so…).
Also stated that Carlo Colaiacovo* has been re-signed for 3 years and is nearly 100% healthy. (TSN story here)
Message #2: Update 3:19pm EDT June 21
Paul dropped me a note to say he had a chance to catch up with Ducks GM Brian Burke in a scrum just now. Burke commented that he is confident they will sign J.S. Giguere, that they made an offer last week. Regarding Scott Niedermayer, they’ve heard no decision from him yet, but obviously want him back if possible.
Message #1: Hanging out in Columbus - just a quick hello to everyone (mp3 audio)

Id love to be there in Columbus, something is stirring in the air, maybe a couple of big trades involving teams moving up and down in the draft.
Just a feeling.
Hopefully my VCR doesnt fail me tomorrow when the draft is on, and Im working my ass off missing it :-(

Anyone know where they’re holding the 2009 Draft? I know Ottawa has it again in 2008 and they usually announce these things by now.
I’d love to see it come to Newark or Philly or one of the New York teams so I could make the trip.

Puckhound: We’ll keep you updated… as long as you have an internet connection!
SteveNJ: Personally I’m not sure when they’ll announce the 2009 draft locale. As far as I can see, there doesn’t even seem to be much speculation on it right now. Perhaps someone in the know will drop us a line…?

I’d love to see it come to Newark by 2010. See how many of you bloggers show up then! It’ll be me, (Jersey native) Greg Wyshynski, and (LI Born) Eric McErlain having the floor to ourselves. No bloggers, no MSM, just the 3 of us and some Devils bloggers.

Hey now… I’d love to visit the Garden State. Don’t count me out.

I gotta work out of town tomorrow so will miss it all ....
anyways, Tim Panaccio is reporting Vancouver and Edmonton are in talks with the Flyers about that 2nd overall pick, and the Canucks want Kyle Turris…. should I take this with a grain of salt?
Posted by PuckHound61 from Speckville USA on 06/21/07 at 03:28 PM ET
Sorry you’ll miss all the fun, PuckHound.
About the Turris thing… seems like a no-brainer than Vancouver would want him. But as far as them being in serious talks for the pick that would actually get him? Yeah, BIG grain of salt, I’d say. About Edmonton, I couldn’t say. But I’d be pretty surprised if the Flyers drop that pick.

Yeah, I dont see Philly wanting Schneider with Biron as their # 1 guy, although Schneider no doubt could turn out to be one fantastic goalie.
Personally, Id rather Nonis drafted Cherepanov over Turris with the 2nd pick, and hope the Transfer Agreement is signed eventually.

I had Turris going #1 in my mock draft. I sent you part 1, in Part 2, I have Turris and Van Riemsdyk going 1-2 and Kane 3. I just see both of them as much better fits in Chicago and Philly.
Alanah, you’d love the Garden State. I don’t know if you’d like Newark though. Tell you what, when they hold the draft here, I’ll take you for pizza in the Pizzaland they show in The Sopranos opening credits. It’s a 5-minute drive from my home.
Posted by Steve from New Jersey on 06/21/07 at 03:56 PM ET
Hate to double it up, but I’ve also been told that if Alzner is available at #5, Washington will snag him, no questions asked.
Posted by Steve from New Jersey on 06/21/07 at 03:57 PM ET
PuckHound: I tend to agree. But I doubt the Transfer Agreement gets sorted out anytime soon. At the risk of generalizing, I’d say the Russians are damn stubborn on this issue.
SteveNJ: I got your draft assessment. Thank you! It will be included on a whole list of draft resources to be put at the top of KK later today. And I’m holding you to that pizza offer!
Posted by Alanah McGinley from British Columbia on 06/21/07 at 04:19 PM ET
Alright, but it’ll be at a real pizza place in Jersey. Pizzaland isn’t next to a skeevy dive bar for no reason!

Interesting that Paul ran into Angelo Esposito. I agree with Paul, an off-year cannot drop that kid as far #12 at the Habs. I have him going #8 to Boston. How perfect would it be to have another Quebec born, Italian kid named Esposito on the Bruins? Trust me, he will be in the Top 10.
