from the IIHF,
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – New hall of famer Igor Larionov returns to work in ice hockey and was named director of hockey operations of SKA St. Petersburg.
The club of the Russian KHL announced that Larionov signed a one-year contract with the possibility of extension. The 47-year-old, who was working as a wine merchant in the last years, is expected to arrive in St. Petersburg on Sunday.
thanks to a KK reader for the pointer…

Somebody over there is pretty smart...To build up their team starting with top-notch management...that sounds like the Detroit method.
Does anyone know how well Barry Smith’s team is doing in the Russian League?

I find it interesting that SKA St. Petersburg now boasts a behind-the-scenes lineup that not only includes Igor Larionov, but also Barry Smith and Alexander Medvedev--the driving force behind the KHL. How long will it be before they become known as the “Russian Red Wings” for their amazing puck possession game?
More importantly, how many years will it be until the NHL and KHL merge to form a global hockey league (with relegation, etc.) that plays for the Stanley Cup?
