“I think X and O this team is as good as there is in the game. One thing that hasn’t changed in this game … it’s men playing a boys’ game and there is some emotion involved and I think that’s what I have to get out of them.”
-Darryl Sutter, head coach of the LA Kings. Much more on Sutter from Helene Elliott of the LA Times.

scooter, The Kings have to get out of their funk quickly. They are five points out of the playoffs right now but have some teams they need to jump over which can be difficult.
Sutter can get them playing at a higher level quickly but it all comes down to the effort and commitment from the players.
If they buy-in to what Sutter is selling, I still see them making the playoffs. If not, watch out, there may be more of the management types being replaced.

Paul, I’m curious to know what you think about the hiring of Sutter. I think that the timing is right for these core players on the Kings: they have been taught the defensive scheme for a few seasons now, the young kids have had experience in the playoffs, and (hopefully) they are ready to graduate from a teacher (Murray) to a field general (Sutter). He said all the right things in his presser, and I’m sure it will take some getting used to his style, but this group of guys needed someone to bring out - if not by force - that passion, heart, and desire to be the best and play the best that they can. Murray could not do that.
