From Darren Dreger at TSN:
San Jose Sharks are slowly zeroing in on [Ron Wilson’s] replacement. Todd McLellan, an assistant coach with the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings will interview for the job on Tuesday before heading to Atlanta to discuss the Thrashers coaching vacancy with General Manager Don Waddell.
Sources say Kitchener Rangers head coach and GM, Peter DeBoer is also high on Doug Wilson’s list in San Jose and failing a change of heart, may be considered the frontrunner.
The Sharks may be in competition for DeBoer as the Ottawa senators and Florida Panthers remain in the mix. The Senators are believed to have strong interest in DeBoer along with Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds coach Craig Hartsburg and veteran NHL coach, Bob Hartley.

Anyone know exactly what Todd’s responsibilities have been? Knowing that might provide a clue to who would be a logical replacement.
Hey, maybe Dom would like the job.

Pretty sure he ran the PP. Other than that, I dunno- forwards?

I thought goaltenders retired to become general managers - isn’t that the postition Garth Snow has now?
Seriously, I haven’t got a clue. Does the coach pick the assistants entirely on his own, or is there any input from the GM or president of hockey operations or someone? Probably depends on the team, I guess.

Sorry, but I can’t stop laughing at the very idea of Hasek as a coach.

McLellan ran the PP and forwards.
Holland, Babcock and company know every minor league coach in the world, and will get the best.

I’d much prefer that Coach McClellan goes to the Thrashers with all that young talent picked up from the Hossa trade including former #1 pick Angelo Esposito. In Atlanta, he’d have a team with virtually a blank slate and go anywhere he wants with it.
But the allure of coaching Joe Thornton would be just too tempting to pass up.

So, with McLellan’s departure from Detroit seeming more a foregone conclusion with each passing day, any ideas about his replacement in Detroit?
Jim Paek’s the only name that comes to my mind, but I was under the impression the organ-I-zation likes him where he is…
Discuss.
