Scuttlebutt is Duchene goes 1 to Isles, meaning Hedman goes 2 to Tampa and the Colorado Avalanche - rivals Avs - luck into Tavares at 3

The Islanders will ignore the pleas from the majority of their fan base and bypass center John Tavares in favor of Brampton center Matt Duchene in tonight’s NHL Draft, according to sources familiar with the Colorado Avalanche, who hold the No. 3 pick in the draft.

A well-informed NHL source also told Newsday the Islanders received what was described as a “significant offer” for the No. 1 pick, but general manager Garth Snow turned it down. The team making the offer was not identified.

So much for Tavares not going first overall.  Tavares was picked by the islanders
