wade dubielewicz signed a 1-year contract in cologne some weeks ago, if i were him, i’d fire my agent. cologne’s a classy club with a rich history, but they’re likely to be cannon fodder throughout the season due to some grave financial mismanagement (some disease almost every del club catches at some point, it seems). so - have fun, dubie. in his first game, the sharks got shellacked 6-2 and dubie even managed not to look bad.

there’s a load of didn’t-quite-make-it-to-the-nhl players in the del (yea, i know, just like in almost every european league or the khl), but just like with the legace signing, i keep getting surprised which guys actually come to play here. mannheim got mcgillis, for example. and robyn regehr’s younger brother richie still plays here ever since deciding to come over. the list goes on and on ...

okay, i’ll stop now before i’ll get into a hockey delirium of fond memories about the lockout.

just one more thing: in the article they say that “everyone expected legace to get a solid backup job somewhere in the nhl” and that it’s a surprise he didn’t get one. am i the only one thinking “not really?!” about that statement?

actually it was about stability, but you’ve got the point.

maybe legace chose to come here since we don’t have that new goalie equipment rule. he was the one always called out as an example for “cheating”, if i remember that correctly.

fun fact: the top clubs in the del have a total season budget which is the same amount of money for example brian campbell gets paid per year.

just had fun playing around with number when the sharks were in mannheim and we realized that their first line gets paid thrice the amount of the eagles’ season budget.
