If you are at a hockey game and some ignorant person next to you pulls out a laser, draw attention to that person until security comes and halls the fool away.
Don’t worry, the person will not hurt you, even though he/she feels they can control a hockey game by pointing a laser at a visiting goalie.

Amen to that!

I think the league may need to draw up a penalty similar to the throwing objects on the ice rule. This is bunk.

in a sense, this completely fits the objects on the ice rule. They might need to make a slight addendum for technology. This is dangerous and malicious.

Who’s to say someone an away team’s fan wouldn’t lase their own goalie to draw a penalty?
Other fans just have to realize that shit’s unacceptable, and get security involved.

they should start giving fines to the home teams. once the goalie makes a complaint to the refs, if it happens again and they don’t find and remove the person doing it, then fine the team 10,000. the next time that happens, fine them more.
punishment for those who do it? well, im not a lawyer, but i do wonder if you can’t argue that goaltenders have dangerous jobs, and the laser pointer increases that danger, therefore that is reckless endangerment in us law. If so, that’s a pretty good deterrent, with something like that on your record, getting a job isnt easy…

You wouldn’t actually have to fine the team.
Charge the fans an additional $20 a head if the miscreant isn’t handed over, and that will be the end of that. ![]()
Seriously, this is dangerous and stupid. For the fans, it probably falls under some kind of public nuisance rule. A long time ago there were some idiots who were doing something similar on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD - they were shining laser pointers on the breasts or behinds of young women and starting fights with their boyfriends, and I think they were charged with some version of harassment and causing a public nuisance.
