from Chris Johnston of the CP via the Globe and Mail,
The Dany Heatley situation took another strange twist Friday with Edmonton Oilers GM Steve Tambellini publicly announcing he’s no longer interested in the disgruntled Ottawa Senators sniper.
This may be a first, a GM gathering the media to say he is NOT interested in a player. Yes, we all know the story, but why bring it back into the limelight? I would have just moved on and let the story die.

I think it’s two things. First is just to put a spike in the story because now, when writing about the Heatley situation, people won’t be able to make fun of the Oilers as much now, about being so desperate. Second would be for them publicly to let Penner et al know that they’re not going anywhere, so stop worrying about what’s happening.
Actually, there’s a third option that I don’t honestly believe, because I don’t think they’re smart enough to do this, but maybe thy’ve heard some rumblings that Heatley might be warming to the idea of Edmonton and, with no other takers and the Sens getting desperate, they go back to Edmonton and now Edmonton can say “Hey, sorry, we’ve moved on. If you want us to take him offa your hands, you’re going to have to sweeten the deal.”
