You may remember this article I posted a few weeks ago from Michael-Louis Ingram and Gary Norris Gray of Black Athlete.
Well, today I received an email from them and they asked me to point to their new post up on the NHL…
We want to clarify a few things in our past article opening the season. We at BASN always strive to get the story correct - and our readers and loyal fans appreciate this. We’re pretty much on it here at BASN, but given the human factor, we may miss something.
In our haste to get information before the season’s start, we suffered a couple of mea culpas, so we will Zamboni the ice on those and start the next period fresh…

That they needed to then explain what they actually meant should be the first clue though that maybe it’s not the best way to refer to players. They’re HOCKEY PLAYERS. Call them by their names, their positions, whatever… hell even throw in “brotha” if you want in their reference still every now and then.
Is Lebron a “Basket Brotha”?
Adrian Peterson a “Yards Brotha”?
Bubba Stewart a “Checkered Flag brotha”?
Dontrelle Willis a “Banish to the Minors Brotha”?
Just call him LA King Wayne Simmonds, for god’s sake. A hockey player’s a damn hockey player. Otherwise it’s just trying… too… hard… keep it simple.
First and foremost though, hockey fans care about hockey.
