Letters To Ray Stein

from the mailbox of Ray Stein of the Columbus Dispatch,
Mr. Stein: I’ve lived here for 10 years and am still amazed when Buckeyes fans get threatened by the local NHL team. I’ve come up with several theories why:
1. They don’t like to share “their town” with anybody—maybe state government should leave, too; 2. They don’t like it that people in “their town” couldn’t care less about Ohio State and the football team. 3. They have a growing inferiority complex based upon their shortcomings.
Ten bucks (sorry for the pun) says Beyer will be more than willing to share “his town” and jump on the Blue Jackets bandwagon when the “misfits” become winners. Hopefully we won’t choke in the big game….

As a quick background on this, it all started about three weeks ago when Buckeye Fan decided to go off on all the hockey coverage in the summer. The draft, the UFA season, a couple of trades…the Jackets had some news going on.
The following week, a few Jacket fans wrote in to say they liked the coverage, and explained why the follow the team, and that they enjoy having the team in town.
That was followed the next week by a tirade from Buckeye Fan, laden with put downs and an opening line that said, “To all you Jacket fans: GO BUCKS!”
That’s what led up to today’s entries in the paper. Today’s letters are probably reflective of most of the population of Columbus, not the zealots on either end of the spectrum that started the whole mess. I fall in that group myself, I’ve been a Buckeye fan for years, go to bowl games when I get the chance, and go to as many home games as finances will allow. I also hold season tickets to the Jackets. But the morons that compose the group Buckeye Fan make me embarrassed to wear scarlet and gray outside of central Ohio.

Thanks for the explication, KickSave.
Put together any group and there are some members who are just a waste of the oxygen used to power their metabolism.

I don’t think Browneye fans are very intelligent. They get confused real easily, therefor they might not even know there is a hockey team in Ohio.

I can vouch for the religious fervor of the Buckeye nation when I was on a business trip to Columbus and neighboring Delaware, OH to the north. I only stayed a week but I think the only other State to surpass Ohio when it comes to college football would indeed be the Texas.
Maybe those two outfits (OSU vs. UT) ought to go at it more often.
