Nicklas Lidstrom with 2 assists tonight becomes just the fourth player in team history to record 1,000 points in a Red Wings sweater:
1. Gordie Howe - 1,809 (786g-1023a)
2. Steve Yzerman - 1,755 (692g, 1063a)
3. Alex Delvecchio - 1,281 (456g, 825a)
4. Nicklas Lidstrom - 1,000 (229g-771a)
Nick also became the second Swede (Mats Sundin) to join the 1000 point club in the NHL.
added 10:24pm, Forgot to add this, but the Wings TV crew mentioned Nick was the fastest (games played) to reach the 1000 point mark for the Wings.
udate: If you read the comments here, the TV crew corrected their mistake regarding Nick being the fastest to 1000 points. That makes much more sense.

Faster than Yzerman? That’s hard to believe.

casey, that would have been my guess too.
I am trying to confirm that but so far no luck.

I think they misspoke. Yzerman had 1040 points in 757 games by the end of the 92-93 season according to hockeyreference.com

What a great milestone. Congrats to Lidstrom. I’m in my 40’s, and he’s the best d-man I’ve ever seen play, and that includes Bourque, and Potvin.

Yeah, I don’t know what their stats guy was smoking when he said that, but Lidstrom is definitely not the fastest Wing to 1000 points. In fact, he’s the slowest, which is completely unsurprising, since he’s a defenceman.

There was a point during Red Wings Live after the game when their stats guy handed them a card to correct them. As Ken Daniels said, he was actually fourth fastest… of four.

Nonetheless, as they pointed out he got to 1000 points in what, 1034 games?
For a defenseman, especially considering the low-scoring era right in the heart of his prime, those are pretty silly numbers.
It’s telling that of the company he’s in for scoring defensemen now, none of them have been playing recently…
