Lightning Co-Owner Wants To Take Hands-On Role

from David Ebner of the Globe and Mail (Friday edition),

Len Barrie, co-owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning, wants a hands-on role next season running one of the worst teams in hockey — as soon as he can sell a major real estate development in British Columbia....

Barrie, a one-time journeyman NHLer, has his mind on the Lightning, whose 2008-09 campaign was a disaster, ending with nine consecutive losses to ring up the second-worst record in the league. The team’s 24 wins were the fewest in the NHL.

“We’ve had a long year, we had a lot of injuries,” Barrie said in an interview yesterday. “It’s been disappointing not being able to help. I have to look after the main place [Bear Mountain] first, and we’ll see how it plays out.

“I’d like to have more of an involvement on the day-to-day stuff [in Tampa]. You can only do so many things.”

Oh, great. As if we weren’t bad enough. These owners are jokes. If they trade Vinny, I’m moving out of Tampa

If they keep Vinny, you’re going to have the same team for the next 6 years.

Does that sound appealing?

This spells trouble. Good sports teams are rarely run with hands on day-to-day owners.

Len Barrie even more involved? Yea because that Boyle trade he was involved in worked out great for the Lightning.

God help Tampa Bay! As if the circus these clowns brought into town wasn’t bad enough, ol Len thinks he needs to be more hands on.

Oh, boy.  This could be a disaster of truly epic proportions.

And they were doing so well in Tampa after winning the Cup.  :(
