from Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated,
Don’t laugh. Despite a well-earned reputation as the league’s loosest cannon, (Steve) Downie might be up to the challenge.
A former first-round pick, Downie was seen as the next Steve Ott when he was taken 29th overall by Philadelphia in 2005. An offensive whiz in junior (92 points in just 45 games during his final season in the OHL), he was envisioned as someone who would create space and opportunities with his ferocious checking and willingness to step over the line on occasion.
But rather than learn to pick his spots, Downie seems to have spent his entire career seeking new ways to make people forget that he can actually play the game.

No. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over time is that people only have the ability to change when they hit rock bottom. Since people still employ this douchebag and he get’s paid more than minimum wage (I mean REAL people minimum wage) he’ll never change.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

The problem with the entirety of Muir’s commentary here is that he repeats the fiction that Andrei Markov was asked, and refused, to be the Canadiens’ new captain. Markov, Bob Gainey, and Jacques Martin now have all said there is no truth to the rumour, yet no media outlet I’ve seen, except for the Montreal Gazette (the ones who broke the fictitious story in the first place) have corrected it.
