via the Tampa Bay Lightning,
The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed free agent defenseman Kurtis Foster today, Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced.
“We are extremely excited about adding Kurtis as we continue to strengthen our blue line,” Lawton said. “He is a big, mobile defenseman that gives us a heavy shot for the power play.”

Good signing… but now we have 7 defensemen (Hedman, Ohlund, Meszaros, Ranger, Walker, Krajicek, and now Foster. I wonder how they’re going to play all of these guys…

Josh, just remember last season. Seven dmen will be just fine.

Surprised Foster didn’t get picked up sooner. He really looked like he had the potential to be an up-and-comer with names like Phaneuf and Weber, but had that unfortunate injury. Even so, I’m a little surprised another team didn’t take a chance on him on July 1st.

a 7th D-man could work if they double shifted Marty on the 1st and 4th line. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s done it.

Josh, I didn’t dress 7 dmen per game. Just saying 7 is a good number, allows for some competition between themselves and gives the coach some options.

After the revolving door on last year’s Lightning blueline, having 7 reliable, NHL-caliber defensemen is a must for the Bolts. They can rotate Foster/Walker/Krajicek depending on the opponent.

Can’t really knock this signing. Looks like Lawton has sobered those cowboys up.
