via Sharks.com,
The Sharks are bringing in defenseman Andreas Lilja as a tryout player for training camp. Lilja spent the past five seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan is very familiar with him from his time as an assistant coach in the Motor City.
“He’s going to make it a more competitive camp because he’s a veteran player,” said McLellan. “He is familiar with the coaching staff and our system because it is similar to what he came from. Once camp starts, he is like any other player and his play will dictate whether he (gets a contract).”

SONUVABI….
Alright. We’ll take Leo’s approach on this. Good luck Lils.

On the fence about this… Lils was either solid or well… a Pylon.
I wish him no ill will, but don’t wish success for him in SJ. (shrug).

Alright, I’ll be the a-hole super-fan here… Lilja is clearly a GIANT greedy douche traitor for turning down the Wings offer and while he’s openly admitted that he regrets his decision, I hope the rest of his career is a spiraling ball of failure and I hope he wears the teal proudly like the fat, sad, giveaway machine he is. he cost us one stanley cup and now he’s little Todd’s problem. I notice Stevie Y didn’t throw any bones his way… and he knows him all too well. I guess teams are hesitant to sign a rapist with concussion problems. Bon voyage Andreas… don’t let the Wings’ class, history, loyalty, and cup banners hit you on your way out. I’m sure San Jose will be a nice stop on your way to the KHL… hahahahahahahahha!!!!!!!!
(geez… am I the ONLY real Wings fan around here.)

Buh-bye now.
I cared once. I really did.

FFS, the Sharks.

This could really bite the Wings in the butt come playoffs.
Can’t blame the Wings, he demanded a 2 yr contract, which is pretty risky for an unproven brain damaged vet.
Lils is still one of my favorites, along with McClelland.

And what about the time he punched that retarded kid in the face?

Lilja was one of my favorites. You guys might think he looked kinda bad sometimes, but we also had Lebda to make him look good. Those might have been the shifts he played without Lebda.
I wish him the best of luck in SJ. I’ll also have to make an effort to buy a #3 jersey on closeout. I nearly did with the #26 last year and really wish I had for the return of Happy. Lilja will be back unless he has a breakout year and we can’t afford him.

The rapist part kinda has some truth to it. Not really that much, but kinda. Sadly.
I’m sorry to see him go. I was against letting him go from day one. Very sad. Not as sad as when Sammy walked, which most of you were actually in favor of, but still very sad.

I still blame Lilja’s agent more than I blame Lilja, but I gotta admit that seeing Justin Abdelkader run him would make me feel better.

Wow, really? I’d never heard about that. Was he accused or something?

while i neither have the motivation or the time, i was definitely tempted to modify that Wikipedia page and add a line about an unfortunate retarded kid punching incident.

You can always add to this page instead. http://www.sportsargumentwiki.com/index.php?title=Andreas_Lilja
I’m certainly not clever enough to write it.

Fair enough, but he’s a 35-year old man who’s been in the NHL for a decade, not some kid right off the bus who’s taken advantage of by some city slicker.
