Even more unexpected was the unveiling of a brand new XM satellite radio show hosted by – wait for it – Gary B. Bettman!
Even if it winds up being the hockey equivalent of The Chevy Chase Show, I sincerely hope Bettman’s program lasts long enough so he can get Ron MacLean as one of his guests; and I really sincerely hope he holds the Hockey Night In Canada host hostage live on air until MacLean agrees with Bettman’s philosophies on the game. Payback’s a bitch.

This is a pay to listen broadcast network. Derfuhrer is repeating the same mistake as the Versus contract. He gives the NHL rights to a Network owned by a cable company, the can’t figure out why the other cable providers aren’t allowed tro put it in their packages.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

I know there’s some controversy (yes, I know, fast and loose with the word) over MacLean’s views, but I agree with him 9 times out of 10. I just can’t get my head around anyone that supports Bettman as commish.
The game continues to be good because hockey is a good game—frankly, I doubt some of the other major sports leagues could’ve hung on had they been as mismanaged as the NHL has been by their commisioners. The hockey fan base (the base, not the fringe fans) is passionate, and apart from European or South American football fans, it’s probably the one group of fans of any sport that’s willing to put up with a lot of crap before giving up on the sport.
