Low Payroll, No Playoffs

from Kevin Allen of USA TODAY,
The Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Atlanta Thrashers, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Phoenix Coyotes and Nashville Predators are the 12 lowest payroll teams, and the Penguins and Sharks are the only teams in that group in a playoff position.
“The fact is that money has always talked, and it carries the preponderance of play,” said Anaheim Ducks general manager Brian Burke.

Teams like the Rangers and Maple Leafs can no longer continue to win Cup after Cup with their economic advantage like they did pre-CBA
Could you have picked 2 worse examples for winning “Cup after Cup”? Umm...the Leafs haven’t won since 1967 and the Rangers have won once (1994) in the last 67 years or so.
The lockout solved every problem the NHL has ever had.
Uh...no. I agree it has helped a lot, but it definitely has not solved every problem.
I would do a little research before posting next time if I were you.

NHL_Jeff sorry you missed the sarcasm. If there were two more obvious examples of ineptitude versus dollars spent I couldn’t have found them. You don’t believe season ticket prices have dropped as well do you?
The lockout hasn’t proven anything other than it was capable of being the only reason outside of the 1919 flu epidemic to wipeout the Stanley Cup playoffs. The idea that each team has equal ecomonic footing is also a joke. It means some teams now have an unlimited supply of revenue and a cap drawn on labor cost. The Leafs and Rangers can still easily afford to buy out players since it has little impact on the bottom line when your salary has been cut in half compared to pre-lockout and the cap increases annually by bloated ticket costs.
To source the NY Times. The Rangers are charging $10,000 for the playoffs at ice level and it cost more for playoff seats in the upper deck than for season tickets.

My bad. I should have realized that
. My season ticket prices have certainly not dropped and it seems most have risen, but I wasn’t sure about yours...haha. The only thing more insane than those Rangers ticket prices are the people who buy them!

Yet another argument in favor of a universal internet sarcasm font!

I refuse to believe this. The new CBA has guaranteed that all teams have equal economic footing. Teams like the Rangers and Maple Leafs can no longer continue to win Cup after Cup with their economic advantage like they did pre-CBA. My season ticket prices have be lowered every year since the lockout and now I can easily afford to bring my family to the games as well. The lockout solved every problem the NHL has ever had and even has produced a 60 goal scorer for the first time in 12 years.
