Luke Schenn unconcerned about lack of contractual progress with Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ entry in the right-handed, restricted free agent defenseman sweepstakes is one Luke Schenn, whose agent, Don Meehan, has yet to come to a contract agreement with Toronto, but Schenn told the Toronto Sun’s Lance Hornby, the Globe and Mail’s James Mirtle and the Toronto Star’s Paul Hunter that there’s no concern whatsoever on the Schenn camp’s part regarding the lack of substantive progress made with the Leafs’ management:

“There’s no question, wherever you go, being part of the Toronto Maple Leafs is way different than (playing for) other teams; people are more passionate and people follow it like no other,” he said. “There’s no question I want to be a part of things going forward here and help the organization and the team achieve some success.”

Schenn said he is “not too worried” that it is midway through the summer and his name is not yet on an extension.

“We’ve still got a month and a half till training camp so it’s not like you’ve got a week to get something done. There’s lots of time,” he said. “You look around and Shea Weber just got done (with Nashville after an arbitration hearing). Even guys who were in my draft class, Drew Doughty (in L.A.) and Zach Bogosian (with Winnipeg), haven’t signed yet either. It’s between the agents and management right now. You just kind of sit back and see how things unfold but something will happen.”
