from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald,
Unable to complete a sale of the team to an outside group, Panthers owner Alan Cohen is in serious discussions to step down as general partner and allow two of the team’s minority owners to run the NHL franchise, a source said Friday.
Cliff Viner and Stuart Siegel—two deep-pocketed Palm Beach County-based businessmen—have talked to the Panthers about increasing their ownership stakes and running the team, according to a league source briefed on the discussions.

Worse than the Koules/Barrie bromance?

Any time you have a team that can’t win for a long period of time, you have to blame the front office, and the owner is a huge part of that. The Panthers have been playing horribly for as long as I can remember, and the only person to blame is the owner. He’s not doing his job of making the team better, either by getting a new GM or doing something else that’ll make the team play better.

His hiring of Keenan to coach than firing him to bring in Jacques Martin and hiring Keenan to be GM then firing Keenan to make Martin GM and coach then firing Martin as coach but keeping him as GM to then let Martin leave at training camp to coach Montreal didn’t help the stability of the team. The whole decade the Panthers have not been in the playoffs and that is why less and less people go to games. The team has enough people in the area but while Panthers floundered, the Heat and Marlins won championships and took the paying customers, well maybe not Marlins no one goes to their games. There is a lot of competition for the sports dollar, Dolphins, Panthers, Heat, Marlins and U of M, if Panthers don’t win people won’t go to games, if they start winning and get in the playoffs the arena will be full, simple as that. It is a good market if you don’t ruin it by losing for a whole decade.
