From TSN,
Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts are officially members of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and defenceman Dan Boyle might be the player in the team’s cross-hairs.
Malone has agreed to a seven year, $31.5 million contract, while Roberts agreed to terms on a one year contract that pays him a base salary of $1.25 million plus $10,000 for every game that he plays in the 2008-09 NHL regular season. So if Roberts were to play in all 82 games, he would earn $820,000 in bonuses, which could make his total income for the season $2.07 million.
continued… plus some speculation on Dan Boyle’s future

What I’m wondering is where all this cash will come from? Koules and Barry needed Bill Davidson to undersign for their purchase of the team. Yet here they are, spending like the proverbial drunken sailors. It seems like something’s got to give at some point.
Hey, maybe they’ll trade St. Louis to the Wings for Lilja—or the rights to Stuart!

After reading Bob McKenzie’s article RE: the lack of a Performance Bonus Cushion in the CBA for the 2008-09 season (http://www.tsn.ca/columnists/bob_mckenzie/?id=242079), I’m even more curious how the Tampa Bay situation will play out.
Roberts’ new contract supposedly calls for roughly $.8 million in incentives and Stamkos surely seems to merit a max entry level deal with lots of performance-based incentives. I wonder if Mssrs. Koules and Barry are including those numbers in their cap figure as they continue to rack up new acquisitions?

You would think they would get a goalie before they would sign a 50 year old stiff like Roberts..Malone at $4.5M is ok but this team needs 2 or 3 defensemen and a goalie in order to be a playoff contender.
