Maltby Likely Hitting The Waiver Wire

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
The odds were stacked against Maltby making the Red Wings roster when he signed a one-year, two-way contract on Sept. 8. A good training camp and preseason hasn’t changed that.
The Red Wings have more forwards than roster spots. Unless a player or two suffers a long-term injury in the final two preseason games—Saturday night in Toronto and Sunday against Pittsburgh at Joe Louis Arena—Maltby likely will be waived.
The longtime grinding forward wants to continue playing, so he will accept whatever transpires, whether he is claimed by another NHL team off waivers or clears waivers and is assigned to the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.
