Manny Legace Waived by St. Louis

From Jeremy Rutherford at the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

The Blues will place goaltender Manny Legace on waivers at 11 a.m. today, the Post-Dispatch has learned.

The team will know this weekend whether Legace has been claimed by another team.

If he is not, Legace will be sent to Peoria.

“It’s extremely tough,” Legace said this morning. “You play your heart out for a team, and the minute you hit a little bit of a rough patch, they dump on you.

Update 1:11pm ET: Press Release from the St. Louis Blues --

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has recalled goaltender Chris Holt from the Blues’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

Update 1:20pm ET: From Jeff Gordon at St. Louis Today --

Actually, the Blues hockey staff has been patient this season. Legace started the year as the clear No. 1 goaltender and had every chance to keep that job.

With top prospect Ben Bishop needing more time in Peoria, Legace had a chance to extend his stay in a city he clearly loves. But nagging injuries and inconsistency marred his season and hurt the Blues’ competitive chances.

Gee, who knew Manny Legace was an emotional wreck?

Oh, yeah… everyone.

“they dump on you”

Yeah, it must have been Detroit dumping on him when he said, right after losing the playoffs, that he wanted to hang himself.

Or the other night when he said he was the worst player in the NHL that night.

I loved the guy in Detroit and I thought it sucked when they didn’t re-sign him, but it’s pretty clear the guy has NO confidence…

I’m just glad he’s not on Detroit this year, because if he had to get called out the Osgood has, Babcock would probably have gotten home yesterday to an overflowing tub full of Manny Legace and a bunch of warm, pink water…

Manny dumped all over himself after the game against Detroit. He said he was the worst player out there.

He’s just mad because if he goes to Peoria, he’ll have to play...and he was really enjoying catching up on his sleep the past couple games on the bench, probably got some reading done too.

Ah yes, that reminds me of the picture I posted the day when Legace signed with the Blues.

In Legace’s case, that “rough patch” is otherwise known as “The 2008-2009 Season”.

Nice pic.  Wow, I’m guessing the dude must be pretty much finished in the NHL.  Who would want a guy who is SO effing down on himself?  And THEN whining about his team giving up on him?

Ottawa, Toronto, the Isle, Colorado… those are the only spots I can think of where Legace is an upgrade and/or makes sense.

Long Island is the only one of those where I can imagine him not being totally destroyed by the fans/media.  The other three would rip him to tiny little shreds that might fill a snack-size Ziploc bag.

Ozzie has had an equally stellar season & worse #’s.

Manny has crumbled in St. Louis, Baroque.  Saint.  Louis.

I think he has the potential to combust anywhere.  That said, he’s a good regular season goalie and certainly the Eastern Conference teams present a little bit of a downgrade from the beating he would take int he West.

Honestly, I think Ottawa would be foolish to not sign him.

I’m a sick, sick man, but Toronto needs a goalie.

Manny.  Toronto.  Burkie.

Oh, help me god.  I’m giddy just thinking about the explosion.

Oh, I know.  It’s just that right now there is no pressure in Long Island at all.  They are in full-on Tavares mode, so he wouldn’t need to feel suicidal about losing - that is what the team is going for.
