Mapping Ovechkin vs Crosby

ESPN had a poll up earlier today, asking the question: “Who are you going to watch Friday night?”

Results are below, including a map pinpointing the origin of the results. Find out if your part of the country is more hyped for Crosby or AO.

Note: Keep in mind that this poll would have probably provided a more accurate result if tonight featured the first game of both series.

I just think this poll shows how little ESPN knows about hockey. People don’t watch playoff hockey games for one player, they watch based on how interesting and tough they think the overall matchup will be. In that regard, Caps-Flyers should see a bigger audience.

Unless everyone outside of PA and Ottawa have NHL CenterIce, it would be pretty difficult to watch Crosby since the Caps were featured on Versus.

I find the fact that Crosby is so disproportionately popular in Kentucky to be more than a little bizarre.

How about the poll up there now? ... Which young star will win the Stanley Cup first?
Sidney Crosby 72%
Alexander Ovechkin 28%

Why not ask who’ll be tuning in for Evgeni Malkin? He’s better than both of them.
