Marc Crawford Responds to Firing

Rich Hammond at Inside the Kings managed to talk to Marc Crawford today. A sample:
(on his future...) “I have talked a little bit with my wife and my family. The good thing is, I have two years left (on my contract) with the Kings. That gives me time to think. Having two years to do that is pretty good. You don’t have to rush in if the situation isn’t right. Quite truthfully, I want to be passionate about the next opportunity. I want to use my passion and give the team everything I have. A big reason that people are attracted to me is that I am passionate and I want to win. I want to make the right decision. If the right opportunity comes quickly, great, or if it takes a while, that’s OK too.”

I’m glad you meant fired, because I was concerned you meant “fried” (which is what’s happening to a coach before he’s fired, most of the time...).
Anyway, as to your question. No, they don’t take any cap hit for coaching salaries. However, he will get paid out over his remaining contract; or he may have a buyout agreement in place. That depends on the contract itself and if he wants to accept another job during these coming two years.

Kind of amazing what kind of world these guys live in, eh?
If I could get fired from my job and still get paid for two more years and not have to do a damn thing…

One sticky note worth adding to this… Crawford mentions when talking to Hammond that he has 2 years remaining on his contract. But all reports yesterday (including at the LA Kings website) and even in an interview with the LA Times tonight, it’s stated as fact that he has just 1 year left.
Not a big issue, but I thought I should add it since others may have noticed the contradiction.

Crawford had an option in his contract for a 4th year, which the Kings are paying him for. That’s why he’s saying 2 years instead of 1.

So, do the fred coaches get paid for the remainder of the contract?
I’m guessing here ... but that’s not a cap hit, right?
