from William Houston of the Globe and Mail,
The term embedded could apply to Pierre McGuire, who provided analysis for the third game of the Detroit Red Wings-Anaheim Ducks Western Conference final on TSN Tuesday night.
McGuire set up, not at his usual spot between the benches, but right on the players’ benches. During the first and third periods, he stood with the Ducks. In the second, he joined the Red Wings.
In a normal situation, this would raise questions, such as: When is close too close? Yes, it’s a great idea to report and comment from the front row. But, on the other hand, an independent commentator doesn’t want to appear to be joining the team.
