from TSN,
The Ottawa Senators and restricted free agent defenceman Andrej Meszaros are still far apart in discussion about a new contract.
Senators general manager Bryan Murray spoke to the media at the Bell Sensplex on Thursday and addressed the impasse.
“We’ve tried to make presentations with a variety of offers and terms, but they’ve been rejected at this point and time,” Murray told reporters. “So there’s nothing more.”
Update 5:49pm ET: Reports that Meszaros has signed an offer sheet.

I don’t think he’d need the KHL as leverage no?
Looking at Ottawas’s defense core today, it seems to be missing about 4 bonafide NHL defensemen. Outside of Phillips and Volch.
I’d assume Mezz and his agent hold all the cards, regardless of the KHL. And are going to be laughing all the way to the bank at Murray’s expense.

Paging Mr. Murray:
Have you by any chance actually LOOKED at your defense lately? You don’t have much choice in the matter, KHL or no.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Note that Meszaros is using the KHL as leverage against the Sens, saying he might jump to Russia if he doesn’t get an offer to his liking.
Better get used to hearing that line from mediocre NHL’ers who aren’t getting paid Chara money.
