Milbury Keeps Talking

from William Houston of Truth & Rumours,

The problem is, outside of Cherry and also Al Strachan, you are unlikely to hear a Hockey Night commentator criticize anyone in a position of NHL power.

The worst for this is Mike Milbury who is outspoken only in the sense that he passionately defends the establishment. If ever in his TV career Milbury has made a comment that ran counter to the official thinking of the NHL or club officials, we missed it.

He likes fighting and thinks opponents of fighting are girls. He thinks the NHL Players’ Association inflicted the worse atrocity known to mankind by firing executive director Paul Kelly, whom, the guess here, was viewed by the NHL’s hierarchy as the perfect guy to be ensconced as the players’ leader.

Milbury’s toeing the company line, of course, would have absolutely nothing to do with his hope and aspiration of getting back into the NHL as a coach or general manager.

Maybe the company line is more accurate than any other line being spouted. When Cherry and Strachan are your advocates, you probably need to rethink your position.

Ha ha, well-put Timbits.

Maybe William Houston got bonked on the head with a shoe at some point in his life.

Cherry is a senile provincial fuch. I’d love to see him put on a pair of skates and just be on the ice for a proper NHL practice, especially a high-tempo Euro team like the Wings or Caps.

Still, you cannot deny that Milbury is a giant douche and has no place on television. He and Melrose are both idiots.

Houston also makes a very sound point about LeBrun. He’s one of the best in the business, but he’s also been the recipient and beneficiary of many of the NHL’s “thought balloon” articles (20 playoff teams?  Bowed-out goals?  An end to ‘staged fights?’).  He’s so highly-connected that he walks a fine line between not rocking the boat and saying what he’s expected to say on Saturday nights.

Honestly, in terms of a line of independent thinking, the Hotstove doesn’t speak from the NHL’s gospel only when Friedman or, of all people, crazy Al Strachan, appears, and that’s kind of scary.
