from Mike Heika of the Dallas Stars Blog, Here’s Mike Modano after the penalty filled game in which Steve Ott and Sean Avery were jawing with officials and fans:
“Tonight, it was idiotic and stupid,’’ Stars center Mike Modano said when asked what the team identity was. “It was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen. If that’s what we’re going for, then they need to find me an office job.”
“It was dumb penalties, dumb situations, that’s kind of been the trend all season,” Modano said. “There’s no mental toughness. We’re allowing the refs to get involved in the game with and spending more energy on them than the details of winning the game.”
I was able to catch some of this game last night, and Avery and Ott were an embarrassment to the game!

I was at the game, and it was definitely one of the more entertaining Bruins games I’ve been to…

I agree with Mr. Nasty. Avery is a “look at me” player, at least that is the way I see him. IMO, a true agitator goes out and tries to get players off their game, but they do it with their team in mind. Sort of like Maltby was like in his prime. Avery though has just a little Dennis Rodman self promotion in him, though not as eccentric. I think that is where he might be rubbing people the wrong way.

The writing was on the wall. Brett Hull has messed up the dressing room with his moves. There is a fine line between having an agitator that messes with the other teams head but that line is being crossed and messing with their own teams heads.
Guys like Avery and Ott want the other teams to lose focus and draw the attention towards themselves. Teams are cluing in that the best way to get revenge on Ott and Avery is to go after their teammates and make them turn on themselves..it is working. The opposition is going to start hitting anything that moves and the Stars players will be hunted every night if this keeps up...including their skilled players.
