Money Not Well Spent

from Jay Greenberg of the NY Post,
For $56.85 million, the Rangers have a team with just one above-average scorer, Marion Gaborik; no true No. 1 center; and no real No. 1 defenseman. Worse than an indictment of how poorly Glen Sather has cut the pie, it actually is a depressing portent of years of mediocrity.
The Rangers will pay Ales Kotalik, who can barely get on the ice, $6 million for two years after this one. They owe Chris Drury, a second-line player whose best years were in Buffalo, $8 million next season and $5 million for the one after that. And Rozsival and Wade Redden’s untradable deals will choke the Rangers’ chances to improve themselves until they are swallowed whole.
The contract of Redden, paying $8 million this year, $6.50 million the following two years, and $5 million for the two after that, has to be jammed past Jim Dolan’s gag reflex and down his hatch. The contract of Rozsival, worth $6 million this year, $4 million for 2010-11 and $3 million for 2011-12 has to be salted and pitch-forked past the owner’s teeth.
