Morning Line

from Jack Todd of the Montreal Gazette,

Burke has always been a blunderbuss - Don Cherry with a law degree.

In the wake of Anaheim’s Stanley Cup win last spring, he’s morphed into a blowhard who believes he’s a genius - but a genius who doesn’t look half as smart without Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne.

Todd’s allowing his dislike of Burke to cloud his thinking.

Yes, the Ducks are struggling without Niedermayer and Selanne, but it was Burke who brought them to the Ducks in the first place. And it was Burke who dumped an overpaid underachieving Fedorov to Columbus and got Francois Beauchemin in return. And he acquired Chris Kunitz for essentially nothing. And brought in Ric Jackman for a song, who played a part in helping the Ducks win the Cup. And brought in Brad May, who also bolstered the Ducks playoff run last spring. And landed Sean O’Donnell for Joel Perreault. And stole Chris Pronger from the Oilers. And landed tough guy George Parros from the Avs. And dumped Ozolinsh and Chistov.

As the evidence clearly shows, Burke is one of the better GMs in the league, whose successes have thus far outweighed his mistakes.

Lyle, I really like to dislike Burke, and avoiding logic and evidence makes it that much easier for me, so I’m just going to pretend I never read your post.  Nothing personal, you know…:)
