“It’s individuals in charge of a team game. If you want to be individuals, go play tennis or golf. We live with it. It’s the rules, we play by them, but my view is you’re putting individuals in charge of a team game.”
-Colorado goaltender Craig Anderson on the shootout. More on the Avalanche/Blackhawks game last night from Adrian Dater of All Thins Avs.

+1 to Craig Anderson, shootout goes against most of what hockey is about. I’d rather have ties again.

Somebody lost a shootout.
Or somebody grew up playing hockey, loving hockey and would like games to be decided based on hockey, not a skills competition.
I’d rather have ties.
I’d rather have OT till somebody wins.
Three point games are horseshit.

“I think resiliency was the key thing for us,” Anderson said.
That’s what he said on Oct. 17 in a shootout win. No mention about the rules then.
I wasn’t make a case for or against the shootout. I just think it’s funny when they lose they start addressing the issue.
Personally I would rather have ties myself, or at the very least 5 shooters apeice. That way it is a little bit more representitive of the sport, like during equal & full strength when it’s 5-on-5.
Three point games are horseshit.
I could not agree more on this point. All games should have the same value. Shootout or no shootout.

Of course they do. They’d look like real pieces of crap if they complained after winning a game.

To clarify and actually make a point, he may not have complained about the shootout in their win, but it’s not like he was saying “Yay, we won by shootout. Boy do I love the shootout.” If he had, then he’d be a hypocrite, but he didn’t, so I’ve got no problem with it.

Ties suck!

I like pie… I like ties… no like shootouts!

Here’s a fun idea to add meaning to these big blowout wins, which is more of a problem that the Shootout if you ask me:
Winning team gets 3 points for a win or 4 goals or more.
Why not reward a team for pasting someone? There have been quite a few pastings lately… and it’d separate the really good teams form just the good ones just a little bit more, without really throwing things out of whack.

Yeah, and put it on a scale. The bigger the margin of victory the more points your team gets.
win by 1-3 = 2pts
win by 4-7 = 3pts
win by 8-11 = 4pts
and so on…..
