This is in no way a crack at Nicklas Lidstrom. But that guy’s assist totals must be padded 5 percent from playing so many years in Joe Louis Arena. No matter what happens or how a goal is scored, Lidstrom gets an assist. I swear, he’ll be getting assists two seasons after he retires. Used to be Yzerman. Now it Lidstrom.
-Aaron Portzline of Puck-rakers. More on last night’s game from Aaron.

That’s called the Boston Garden rule. If Bouque’s in the building he gets an assist.
It’s in the rules, look it up.

Portzline gets a little sobby when the BJ’s lose. Understandable. Giving Nick an assist on Uniboozer’s second goal was, admittedly, a stretch.
Of much greater concern is that Lidstrom’s slapshot has all the velocity of a Frank Tanana curve ball. He’s not 100 percent. Maybe 80.

happens at every arena. crosby, thornton, they all get phantom second assists.

Lids would have to play another 20 years to rival Esposito’s phantom assists.

Detroit winger Todd Bertuzzi, who is 6-5, 235 pounds…
Looks like Todd grew an extra inch for every goal he scored on Saturday.

It’s only fair. It goes along with the 10% “padding” for being awesome and the extra time after he retires is to compensate for all the goals that Holmstrom has stolen from him for all these years.
