It’s possible Mats Sundin’s long-awaited decision on where or if he will play could come before Friday. “Aug. 1 is a soft deadline,” agent J.P. Barry said

“Hopefully, we’ll know whether he’s going to play or not. It might take a little longer to figure out the team situation,” Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry, said.

Sundin is just waiting to see how much cap room the Wings have after they sign Filppula.

Datsyuk / Zetterberg / Holmstrom
Hossa / Sundin / Franzen
Hudler / Filppula / Samuelsson
Kopecky / Draper / Cleary

haha gross.

to be honest I would be scared if he did for whatever odd reason end up in Detroit, I just think the team chemistry could be upset, there are players in the wings system who want more ice time, and they wouldn’t get it.

Interesting, sounds like he will be playing just not sure on the team.  JP would never have said it will be longer to figure out the team thing if Mats was leaning to retiring.

For most people and teams this is a non-issue anyways.  Most Leaf fans don’t want him back for various reasons (non-of-which include he sucks) and there are only about 3-4 other teams even interested it seems (MTL, VAN, DET(maybe).

I think Holland said specifically that after signing Hossa, they are out of the running for Sundin.  He might even have told them specifically that he wasn’t interested in Detroit when Holland first made inquiries.

I’ve heard that he might want to stay in Canada for tax reasons regarding businesses or investments.

I believe you’re right, Baroque. I remember specifically hearing that Detroit wasn’t going after Sundin, and that Sundin had no interest in Detroit anyway.
