MSG Sues The NHL

Madison Square Garden sued the NHL on Friday, saying the league has monopolized promotion of its teams.

According to the lawsuit, the NHL has claimed it will fine MSG, which owns the New York Rangers, $100,000 per day if it does not give the NHL complete control over the team’s Web site and other promotions.

Why can’t teams promote themselves?  It’s not like the NHL is great at promoting the league.

I agree.  If the NHL was any good at marketing, the teams wouldn’t need to take it upon themselves.

Although fines of $100,000 per day is a nice way to increase revenue, I suppose--at least until the expansion fees kick in.
