From Jim Kelly at Sportsnet.ca,
4) Is there an NHL team that looks dumber or cheaper than the Buffalo Sabres right now?
Former Sabre Danny Briere, who practically begged the Sabres to give him a reasonable contract offer last season, is leading the league in playoff scoring and is a big reason that the Flyers still have a chance to go from worst to first in a single season. The Sabres made it clear they had no interest in signing Briere (though for the record they did make a token effort hours before free agency opened, an effort that reminded many of their “attempt” to re-sign Ted Nolan as coach a decade earlier).

I’m fairly certain Regier and Buffalo essentially agreed to trade Biron to an organization where he’d be the number one goalie when Biron signed his qualifying offer with Buffalo.

A minor point of contention with Jim Kelly’s point on Buffalo. Kelly makes it seem as though Buffalo, in a single decision, chose to go with Thibault over Biron in order to save money. But this isn’t exactly how it came about - Biron was traded to PHL at the 2007 trade deadline for a draft pick in order to clear space under the salary cap - space that was needed to accommodate deadline acquisition Dainius Zubrus’ contract. (In 2007, Buffalo spent up to the salary cap, and so it needed to trade Biron before it could acquire Zubrus.)
After the 2007 season, Biron re-signed with PHL. Buffalo, needing a backup goaltender, then signed Thibault. So to say that Buffalo opted not to keep Biron and instead chose the less- expensive Thibault isn’t really a fair statement.
Buffalo doesn’t come out looking real good on Drury, though, imo.
