NBC- Hockey Fans Need Some Clarification

Team USA is scheduled to face Team Switzerland at 3:00pm ET Wednesday on NBC, but the NBC TV schedule only has a only a two hour time frame for the game.
What hockey fans need to know from NBC is this- Will you carry the game until conclusion on NBC or when the clock strikes 5:00pm ET, will you be shifting the game to one of the other NBC stations?
You see, people need to set their DVR before they go to work in the morning and would like an answer they can trust. I’ve received over 50 emails today on this topic and would appreciate an answer.
If any KK member or guest has heard anything, please leave a comment below.
I would think it would be safe to assume NBC would carry the game in full, but….
update 2/24/10 at 9:22am, via Puck the Media,
A representative from NBC told Puck the Media last night that the game will be aired in it’s entirety. I worded the question specifically to include potential overtime and shootouts. So our long, national nightmare is over.

Why not move to the west coast, so you have an extra three-hour tape-delay to set your DVR?
NBC is probably the biggest obstacle to being a hockey fan in California these days. At this point, I’d gladly take two hours of coverage.

I wish the network would assign a specific time to replay/rebroadcast these later-round games, even if its a 4am time slot. At least you can count on seeing it in its entirety, without shifting stations during the broadcast. With NBC, even Olympic hockey takes a backseat, and isnt a priority for the network. Hopefully, the NHL network plans on rebroadcasting some of these games.

That is the suck.
Too bad the NHL doesn’t have any power, or they could pressure NBC to cover hockey properly in the US––the market they’re both trying to increase.
A couple of things that hockey knowledge people agree on:
Milbury and McGuirre shouldn’t be on television.
NBC sucks for anything hockey related.
Doc Emerick is the saving grace.

Milbury should be on television if his role is for JR to punch him in the face.
I know he wants to.

Thanks again, NBC. Worst case scenario: I have to miss most of the 3rd period and the ending of the Team USA Olympic Quarterfinal game, but at least I get to record Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Jeopardy!
Such immense incompetence… just mind-boggling.

I’m a bit surprised NBC wouldn’t shun an entity named “Puck the Media”

So just FYI the bronze and Gold matches are tape delayed on the west coast. Ebersol is worse than Bettman.

Haha that’s what i first thought when i read that…
Our postgame coverage has only just ended from the Germany/Canada game on CTV/TSN, and it’s only because the guys need 30 mins to have a nap and get more coffee before the Pregame starts for Canada/Russia…

Well, I guess that’s true, so long as your concept of “national” doesn’t include a west coast.
We’re still quite screwed.

Earl, I sure would like to know the justification and logic behind a 3 hour tape delay for the west coast. Start time at 3pm versus noon? That can’t be it, it makes no sense. Who benefits from that? I’m going to send them a sternly worded letter but have decided to delay it for 3 hours.

“If you somehow get to play hooky from work or simply want to catch the U.S.-Switzerland quarterfinal men’s hockey game during part of your lunch hour Wednesday, grab a snack and settle in for …
The Ellen DeGeneres Show, followed by Days Of Our Lives and The Martha Stewart Show.
The U.S. will drop the puck at noon PST, but NBC is airing the aforementioned programs at that time in Southern California and showing the hockey game on tape delay at 3 p.m.”
“So if the U.S. advances to Friday’s semifinals, that game will be tape delayed by three hours on the West Coast.
Sunday’s gold medal game?
That is scheduled to shown on NBC at 3 p.m. on the West Coast – three hours after the game is played.”

Everyone needs to start jumping on NBC for the tape delays on the West Coast. I dont know why these games are being played so early in the first place but there is absolutely no reason to not have them shown live.
If NBC wants to rebroadcast them in prime time or some other time slot thats fine but tape delaying major events in this day and age is just stupid.

Well all US games will be played at Noon once the qualifying round begins. It’s in the IIHF schedule. Canda gets the 4:30 games the US noon.

So if the US gets past the Swiss they will play at noon on Friday (and I haven’t checked but I’ll bet a beer that they delay till 3 for the US.) Just like the Bronze medal game and the Gold medal game.

I understand NBC’s position. I really do. They are in this to make (or not lose) as much money as possible. I understand that while I am a fan of the greatest sport on earth, hockey, it is a niche sport in the US. So since I am at work for live or tape delay coverage, I am not too upset. Face facts, those soap operas that are on from noon - three have a lot more viewers than a hockey game. And since their primetime ratings are blowing everything out of the water here on the West Coast (including Idol), I’d say weeknight primetime tape delays are here to stay.
What I do not understand, what I am livid about is the decision to tape delay the gold medal game. Show the gold medal game live. It is a Sunday afternoon, all that will be displaced is a few freakin infomercials.

I just looked at the NBC schedule for Sunday in Los Angeles. They are showing three hours of tape delayed cross country skiing from noon to three followed by the tape delayed gold medal game from 3-6.
Fuching Morons. Yes Dick Ebersol, you are a Fuching Moron.
It does not take a Mensa member to figure out that you can show the gold medal game live at noon in LA and then cross country skiing (which was already tape delayed anyway) without disrupting your local asshat’s, er, affiliate’s infomercials.
Dick Ebersol is a Fuching Moron.

Like JR, I will apologize if Dick Ebersol, The Fuching Moron, does the right thing and broadcasts the gold medal game live on the West Coast.
