via NHL.com,
Dallas Stars left wing James Neal was suspended two games by the NHL on Friday for a hit from behind on Columbus Blue Jackets right wing Derek Dorsett at 13:01 of the second period of Thursday’s game.
Dorsett was among a group of players battling along the wall for the puck when Neal came charging in. Neal appeared to leave his feet to deliver a blow to Blue Jackets defenseman Marc Methot, but instead he hit Dorsett in the back. The force of the blow drove Dorsett face-first into the glass. He fell to the ice and could not get up.
In case you missed the hit, watch it here.

2 games? The NHL should be ashamed of itself.

I’ve been mostly ok with the suspensions handed out so far this year, but this one is ridiculous.
And what, Ryan Wilson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmQLWRb7b2I) gets nothing for his elbow on Ethan Moreau. There is no more clear example this season of a player targeting and delivering a blow to the head. Maybe James Wisniewski (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn8YBMsH1mo), but we must understand that Doan got up all woozy and stumbled to the bench. Moreau just stood up and was ready for whatever was about to go down. There’s your difference.
Terrible thing to say, but it has to happen to someone, so maybe hopefully the next player that is nailed with an extremely dangerous/mindless hit is on Gregory Campbell or Jeff Tambellini etc. It would be interesting to see what the man who makes the decision for Colin Campbell (conflict of interest) in that situation would decide. Probably go with the flow to protect his relationships and unknowingly/unwillingly continue this pattern of ignorance.

the moreau-wilson hit is a completely different story.

Methot wasn’t Neal’s intention, he didn’t even touch Methot.
Neal could have manned up and faced Dorsett earlier in the game, but he chose to turn and run. Then when Dorsett has his back turned…elbow up, to the head, and Dorse is out cold. (And not practicing today.)
Well done, NHL. Way to crack down on those blows to the head.
