NHL GameCenter Live

NEW YORK (October 9, 2008)- A major component of the new NHL.com, the League’s new Web site that gives fans a personalized, all-access pass to their favorite NHL team and players, NHL GameCenter Live replaces and dramatically upgrades the League’s former live streaming video product, NHL Center Ice Online. is specifically designed for those avid fans looking for the most complete, in-game NHL viewing experience, as well as for the nearly 50 percent of NHL fans that live away from their favorite team’s local television market and crave more content and access.

NHL GameCenter Live

The hallmark of NHL GameCenter Live puts fans in control of experiencing live NHL games online. NHL GameCenter Live enables fans to choose the games they want to watch (blackout restrictions apply), bounce in and out of multiple games, view up to four games at once, enjoy a “Game of the Night” featuring select multiple camera angles, interact with real-time stats, chat with other fans and more.

“NHL GameCenter Live goes well beyond any NHL game experience that’s ever been available to fans online,” said Perry Cooper the NHL’s Senior Vice President, NHL Direct + Digital Marketing. “As we continue to program online to individuals, NHL GameCenter Live takes personalization to another level, enabling fans to control their own unique interactive game experience.”

Every night, NHL GameCenter Live brings fans into to the action with features such as:

An exclusive experience.
Multi-game view.
On-Demand Viewing.
Interactivity.
Ticker and alerts.
Stats, stats and more stats.

My question, and maybe it’s a good one for that League executive, is whether or not there is a quick feature whereby I can punch in my location and the team(s) I want to watch, and it will show me which of those games will be blacked out, along with what viewing options outside of the service I have to enjoy those games.

I haven’t seen this question come up since CenterIce Online happened last year, but is there any special pricing for this if you already have CenterIce. I wish they could make it free along with purchase so you can see all the CenterIce games no matter where you are, without a slingbox. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed, Johne.  I’m not about to rely on a sketchy internet connection to watch games all season when I can watch them on TV, and I’m not going to shell out that kind of money for both Center Ice and this new product...and I imagine most people with $150+ to spare each season are going to feel the same way.

On a slightly less-pertinent but more amusing note, I just noticed this amusing bit:

I do find it reassuring that (if and) when I get NHL GameCenter Live, I will get the added bonus feature of actually getting NHL GameCenter Live. Bonus points if that means that ordering NHL GCL actually prevents my internet from ever failing or even slowing down.

I’ll stick with Real Time.  I have cable connection but I’m not ready to shell out additional money for GCL.

I have considered it for 2 years now, and I WILL NOT PAY FOR LOCAL GAMES BLACKED OUT

Great technology, but until I can cancel my cable package, I won’t be using it.  Locally and nationally-televised games blacked out?  No thanks.
