NHL/Russia War Just Heating Up

from Stan Fischler at the Hockey Journal,

You can put your money on the fact that the February Games in Vancouver will be the last time the NHL participates in the Olympics.

Expect a reversion to the old formula when collegians and other top amateur players, a la 1960 and 1980, when Uncle Sam won Gold Medals with the likes of Ken Morrow, Mike Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.), et. al.

Remember this—the Russkies host the 2014 games in Sochi. The way the NHL feels about the KHL stealing of North American stars such as Jiri Hudler and Alexander Radulov, there’s no way Bettman Inc. will want to do any favors for the Europeans.

Seems to me Fischler just wants to the stir the pot. Look how he writes about 2 European players:

The way the NHL feels about the KHL stealing of North American stars such as Jiri Hudler and Alexander Radulov…

Shouldn’t it be “NHL stars from Europe”.  He makes it seem they were born and trained here. I know that Radulov played Major Jr. in Quebec, but still. How many true North American born and trained “stars” are playing in the KHL?

I do believe some sort of agreement does need to be worked out though. For the sake of the players and the leagues.
I think the NHL is waiting to see if the KHL has long term viability before it makes a move. The NHL might be hoping that the KHL just folds and then they don’t have to worry about them. But if not they’ll eventually have to come to some sort of agreement.  Or maybe not. who knows?

Um, no.  They are/were NHL players who were the property of NHL (ie. North American) teams that the KHL signed anyway.

Hence, the ‘stealing’ of North American stars.

Many Hollywood stars were not born in Hollywood but became stars in Hollywood.

Since when were Radulov and Hudler ever “stars” anywhere?

Both were promising young players… that’s about the extent.

It would be pretty sad if this was the last time the NHL participates in the Olympics. I didn’t think that time would ever come.

I wrote NHL stars from Europe”. . Is this not a fact? Maybe the star part isn’t but the hockey lineage is. It implies that they’re property of the NHL.  It’ written right in the sentence.  NHL!.  So I don’t understand with you’re disagreeing with.
My only problem was he made me think that these were players born and trained in North America, when they came from Europe to start with.
