via David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail,
John Shannon, the NHL’s senior vice-president of broadcasting and one of its most respected executives, is parting ways with the NHL at the end of the month.
The departure, which Shannon said was by mutual agreement, is not connected to the firing of 20 employees from the NHL’s head office, which became known yesterday.
“I saw that I didn’t fit into what they were trying to do and they agreed,” Shannon said. He added that he has no immediate plans except to “enjoy the summer.”
On a side note, I talked to John about this during the SCF amid rumors that he was fired two months ago. John was aware of the Twitter rumor of his firing and mentioned to me he was leaving by mutual agreement and was not fired.
Knowing Mr. Shannon a bit, I say he still keeps his hands on the pulse of hockey broadcasting and wish him well.
